The four phases
Phase one is the survey. Work includes surveying the roof and installation site, assessing the existing electrical system, taking measurements and collecting data, evaluating current conditions, and consulting on the customer’s needs. The deliverable is a survey report and preliminary design concept, which forms the foundation for design.
Phase two is design. Work includes laying out the PV array, designing the electrical system, performing engineering calculations, drawing single-line and wiring diagrams, preparing a bill of quantities (BOQ), and compiling the full technical documentation package. The deliverable is a complete design package and material cost estimate, which forms the foundation for installation.
Phase three is installation. Work includes procuring materials, mounting the PV array, installing the inverter and distribution boards, running cables and making connections, commissioning and testing, and formal handover. The deliverable is a system operating safely and in accordance with the design.
Phase four is operation and maintenance. Work includes monitoring the system through the inverter app, scheduled inspections, cleaning the panels, electrical safety checks, fault-finding and repair, and production reporting. The deliverable is a system that operates stably and efficiently over the long term.

The four phases are not isolated: they are linked by the quality of each deliverable. A superficial survey forces the designer to guess, producing a design that diverges from site reality, which forces the installation crew to improvise on-site, and ultimately results in a system that operates poorly. This is why investing effort in the survey and design phases is always cheaper than correcting mistakes during installation and operation.
When walking a customer through the project process, the four phases are the simplest way to show that they are buying a professional end-to-end service, not just equipment. Emphasise that the company stays engaged through the operation and maintenance phase (not disappearing after installation), since long-term support is something many competitors skip.
