Panels are where solar electricity begins, converting sunlight into DC power for the entire system. This chapter teaches you how to read a panel’s specifications, distinguish between cell technologies, compare real products on the market, understand why heat reduces output, and avoid wiring errors that cause energy losses.
For: sales staff advising on panel selection, design and installation technicians sizing strings, and newcomers building a foundation in PV panels.
This is the topic where the original infographic contained the most errors in the verification round, mainly in product specifications. This refined layer uses correct values from manufacturer datasheets and clearly marks all corrected points. Because datasheets vary by production batch and market, every specific product figure must still be cross-checked against the exact model’s datasheet before sharing with a customer.
Quick summary
The five golden numbers of any PV panel are Pmax, Voc, Vmp, Isc, and Imp. Knowing these five numbers is sufficient to select panels, design strings, and choose cables and protective devices.
Cell technology determines efficiency and durability. Modern N-type technologies (TOPCon, HJT, and back-contact) all surpass the older PERC in efficiency, temperature coefficient, and degradation rate. Back-contact cells such as AIKO’s ABC currently deliver the highest efficiency.
More sunshine and heat does not produce more electricity. It is the opposite. High cell temperatures reduce output according to the temperature coefficient, so a 40°C day actually yields lower generation than a cool, bright morning.

The five golden numbers
Reading any PV panel starts with five numbers. Pmax states the panel’s power output. Voc is the highest voltage, used to calculate the maximum number of panels in series so the string voltage does not exceed the inverter’s input voltage limit. Vmp is the operating voltage, which must fall within the inverter’s MPPT range. Isc and Imp are the short circuit current and operating current, used to select cables, fuses, and circuit breakers. Mastering these five numbers gives a consultant most of what they need for panel selection and system design.
